Promoting sustainable food systems with a rights approach (impulSAS Peru)
ImpulSAS program is carried out in diverse cultural and geographical contexts in Peru, including Quechua, Aymara, mestizo and Creole populations with complex dynamics of territorial development, tensions and conflicts around their livelihoods, the use of land-territories, natural resources and environment. They are vulnerable populations in rural and peri-urban areas, particularly women and youth, who live in a situation of poverty, malnutrition and food insecurity.
Aim
Rural and peri-urban families within the intervention areas and CSOs exercise and promote their rights of access to food, natural, productive, and environmental resources, land and territory.
Our action
The Eclosio and Louvain Cooperation teams are part of the UNI4COOP consortium, starting a common work from the previous 2017-21 program. And that now they continue with the implementation of two common projects in Peru, and Bolivia, within the framework of the impulSAS 2022-2026 program, and based on the contributions, experiences, and expertise of the partners/partners of both institutions.
Main results and strategies/actions
R1 Strengthened local partners favor the exercise of rights and enabling environments.
-Institutional strengthening of our partners/partners so that they can exercise their role as promoters of change and debate and for an enabling environment to exercise individual and collective rights.
-At a local or pilot level, promote associativity, local governance, local youth networks, etc.
R2 Women, men and their organizations improve resilience and environmental awareness.
-Sensitization and strengthening of capacities in the environment, Climate Change, access to land, etc.
-Territorial management and natural resources in local contexts.
R3 Women and men apply agroecological models within sustainable food systems (SFS).
-Awareness, advocacy and capacity building in Family Farming, Agroecology and SFS.
-Transitions and scaling of Agroecology and Agroforestry Systems (SAFE).
R4 Agricultural and non-agricultural entrepreneurs articulate in green and inclusive production and trading circuits.
-Awareness and incidence in a green and inclusive economy.
-Initiatives of transformation and short circuits of commercialization of agroecological products.
R5 Women exercise their physical, economic and decision-making rights with greater autonomy and empowerment.
-Citizen awareness actions and incidence before decision makers for a change of attitudes and favorable policies for rural women.
-Empowerment of rural women; prevention of gender violence in the school environment.
R6 Local partners promote inter-learning and the co-construction of knowledge with all the actors.
-Development of capacities and leadership of target groups and inclusive knowledge management, promoting inter-learning and the co-construction of knowledge and innovative practices among actors -with emphasis on young people and the articulation between peasants, academia, consumers, etc.- for that are subject to change: training, research-action, research, exchange of experiences, capitalization and dissemination.
Intervention areas
Peru: in the departments of Ancash, Arequipa, Junín, Huancavelica, Piura, Puno and Lima.
Project duration
60 months: January 2022 to December 2026.
Program participants
2,990 women and 2,714 men from vulnerable families in rural and peri-urban areas who are totally or partially dedicated to family farming; with emphasis on women (entrepreneurship, participation in decision-making, etc.) and young people.
